What Love Is

by | Apr 4, 2023 | Blog, Fresh Bread Devotionals, Love

What does it mean to love our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus?  The definition of love – God’s love – institutes a giving and prosperous mentality.

32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Romans 8:32 KJV

The love of God that is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit allows us to operate freely in a generous spirit.

Today, I just want to discuss this verse in Romans.

Our Text

32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Romans 8:32 KJV

Love gives the BEST

Jesus is God the Father’s only begotten son.  That means that when our redemption required a sacrifice and He chose Jesus, God gave the very best to save us. God didn’t give us a servant in heaven.  He didn’t give us an angel.  He gave his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16 KJV

Love gives IN SPITE of Deserving It

Jesus didn’t come for perfect people.  If He did then they wouldn’t need Him!  Jesus came because we as a human race were trapped under the bondage of sin.  We of our own selves couldn’t dig ourselves out of the hole.  We needed Jesus.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 KJV

God showed His love for us by sending Jesus when we LEAST deserved it.

Sinners don’t want to be told they’re sinning – they already know. If you are caught in a sin, there’s no need for anyone to point it out and shame you.  And love – true love – doesn’t put you to shame.

We know we need salvation from the bondage of sin, but in our desperation we often lash out at those trying to help.

That’s what we did when Jesus came to earth. We as humanity lashed out and crucified our salvation from sin. He did nothing but good to us and we returned it with evil.

19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

Mark 15:19-20 KJV

Love is FREE

Jesus made His love free. Despite all the things that WE did to Him, he chose to lay down his life for us. Jesus talking in the gospel of John says…

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13 KJV

He willingly and knowingly chose to lay down His life for me.  I was a sinner who could never be free from the bondage of sin on my own, but Jesus came down to earth in human form and willingly gave His life so that I could be set free.

Notice this verse is talking about “his friends”.  That’s you and I if we’ll allow it! We now have a choice to be friends with God or a slave to satan. There is no inbetween.

Love ACTS

This love of Christ Jesus will penetrate your heart and wash your sins away when you confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

It’s really important to know that this is a free action of love that Jesus did for you and I.  We cannot buy our way to heaven, earn our way to heaven or live right enough to get our way to heaven.

The only way to God is through Jesus.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Romans 10:13 KJV

Salvation is for today, right now.  You can turn your life around for the better and all it takes is one simple prayer.

Prayer of Salvation

Jesus, I confess you as my Lord and Savior.  I call on your name and know that by faith, right now I am saved. I believe you willingly sacrificed yourself on the cross to take my place in sin. You died so that I might live. I believe you rose again three days later and now sit in heaven. I dedicate my life now to serving you with my whole spirit, soul, and body. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer for the very first time, I encourage you to please reach out to me either in the chat or via email at [email protected].  I want to send you a gift and talk with you about what you just did.

Now that you have the love of Jesus on the inside of you.  It’s your responsibility to go tell everyone else what you’ve received and how they can get it too!
