In morning prayer this morning, I was sitting watching the sun rise. As I was watching the sun rise, I thought about all of creation. The Bible says in Romans 1:20 that. . .
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,
Romans 1:20 NKJV
And in thinking about these things I wrote this poem.
Poem about the Heavens
“If heavens could a story tell,
the Sun and Moon and Stars speak well
of God the Father, Jesus and of Man.
Dare I say that the Lord thought this
when He placed the Sun’s gentle kiss
upon the earth – a sign for you and I.
God the Father like the Sun
His glory shines for everyone
no man or beast can hide his face from Him.
And as the Sun it gently sets
the moon comes up and there reflects
the brightness of the Sun that is nearby.
Just the same my Jesus came
and walked on earth a man of pains.
He came to bear the cross for you and I.
Since heaven came to touch the earth
my Christ paid for my new birth.
Now I like Him am raised into the heavens.
So when you look up at the Moon,
look down and to the left and soon
you’ll see a star that looks a lot like me.
Big and bright and bold tonight
All the earth can see my light
As I fulfill God’s promise to Abraham.
Poem Explained
If you remember the verse at the top of this post – Romans 1:20 – it says, “so that they are without excuse“. The they here is unbelievers. It is clearly evident who the creator is just by looking at the creation.
The Sun
The sun is a reflection of who God the Father is. His glory touches every corner of the earth. He sees everything and knows everything just as the sun touches every part of the earth. Without God nothing would exist, much like without the sun life on earth could never exits.
The sun is powerful and bright. So bright that no man can look at its’ face. If you look at the sun too long, you end up going blind. Just look at this…
But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”
Exodus 33:20 NKJV
Why? Because His glory is too much for men to bare.
The Moon
The moon in much the same way is like Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 5:19.
Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
John 5:19 NKJV
Jesus reflects the Father to us. When we see Jesus, we see God. Just like when we see the moon we see the sun’s light reflected into the darkness.
And when you see the moon turn to blood, just think of the blood of Jesus shed to make you and I clean.
The Stars
Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
Genesis 15:5 NKJV
God speaking to Abraham told Abraham to look up at the stars. The number of the stars would be like the children he has. We all as Christians are one of those stars represented in the heavens.
and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
Romans 8:17 NKJV
We are heirs of God. We are made in God’s image. Just as the stars in the sky are simply smaller versions of the sun.
NOTICE THIS!!!
When the sun is present, the stars are no longer needed! So too are YOU as a believer needed in the darkness of this world as a light to point people to Christ. When the trumpet blows and Jesus returns, when all that we see fades away and God reigns visible, that is not the time to get on fire for God.
God needs you to shine bright when He is not readily visible.
This poem is a little bit unusual for me. Check out some of my other content here.
