The Holy Spirit – Tabernacle of Witness

by | Aug 15, 2020 | Blog, Fresh Bread Devotionals, Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is a witness to all God did through Jesus.  The Holy Spirit helps us.  So far in this series about the Holy Ghost we have talked about the Holy Spirit as Our HelperHe is our guide, helper, the One who convicts the world of sin and so much more.

We also just recently looked at How to receive the Holy Spirit, and saw it was just as easy as receiving Jesus as our Lord.

If you missed those posts, I would encourage you to go back and read them.

Today, I want to look at the Holy Spirit and His role in the Tabernacle of Witness and what it represents today.

Primary Verses

44 “Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He appointed, instructing Moses to make it according to the pattern that he had seen, 45 which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David, 46 who found favor before God and asked to find a dwelling for the God of Jacob. 47 But Solomon built Him a house.

48 “However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says:

49

‘Heaven is My throne,

And earth is My footstool.

What house will you build for Me? says the Lord,

Or what is the place of My rest?

50 Has My hand not made all these things?’

Acts 7:44-50 KJV

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Matthew 24:14 KJV

Tabernacle of Witness?

What is the tabernacle of witness?  In the Old Testament before Solomon built the permanent temple of God, Moses built the tabernacle of witness after the guidelines God set. The tabernacle was the place where God would dwell and be able to travel with Israel while they walked through the desert.

Essentially, it was a tent modeled after the tabernacle in heaven not made with human hands.

50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

Numbers 1: 50-51 KJV

This movable tent was a type and shadow of the temple in heaven not made with human hands.

2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.

Hebrews 8:2 KJV

God told the Children of Israel to build this temple when they were in a place that was not their own.  They were in the dry lands of the wilderness after having been rescued from Egypt.

My Body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit

Now like the tabernacle of witness, Christians today are God’s tabernacle of witness.  They are movable structures fashioned in the likeness of God to house God’s very Spirit and Power.

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

1 Corinthians 3: 16-18 KJV

We as Christians are supposed to be the light of the earth – the witness.

How will the Holy Spirit Help?

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Acts 10:38 KJV

When we receive the Holy Spirit we receive the POWER of God.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 1:8 KJV

The power of God is the ability to heal the sick and oppressed and do good because God is with us.

If you were going to be shot for being a Christian, is there any evidence?!

When you receive the power of the Holy Spirit, you tap into the power of God to heal the sick, preach reconciliation to those in need of Jesus, and to cast out devils.

12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

John 14:12 KJV

When we read the Bible and all the things we see in it, is our first reaction, “Wow! That stuff is great.  I wish it was for today.”

Or is it,

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free,” (Luke 4:18)

In other words, “I can do it too – through Christ!”

Luke 11:13 KJV

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

“God, I want all that you have for me. I want the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.  I invite you in right now. In Jesus Name Amen.”
