Is the Holy Spirit REALLY for Today?

The Holy Spirit is for TODAY.

Last time we looked at the questions, “Why should we pray in tongues?”.  Now, this time I want to spend a moment looking at the question, “Is the Holy Spirit for TODAY?”  The answer is YES, but let’s look at why the answer is yes by looking at the Bible.

Our Text

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Acts 2:17-18

The Holy Spirit is for the Apostles

We already saw in a previous post on How to Receive the Holy Spirit that the Apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit.  Sometimes we think that the Apostles had more knowledge or ability with the Holy Spirit than we today have.  That somehow it was natural to pray in tongues for them, but it wouldn’t be natural for us.

Clearly though, even as the Apostles were praying people were mocking them.

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

Acts 2:12-13

Some were amazed and wanted to know more (they were hungry for ALL God had not just a religious experience)  while others made fun of them.

If you are waiting for praying in tongues to feel normal before you do it, you will NEVER pray in tongues.

There will always be those who mock you, and there will always be those who want what you have.  You have to decide which one you want to be.

The Holy Spirit is for All Believers

In verse 17 of Acts 2 we see,

“I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh

Acts 2:17

Upon ALL FLESH.  Last time I checked all still means ALL.  The Holy Spirit is not just for some believers but for all believers.

14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:

15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:

16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)

Acts 8:14-16

The word ONLY implies something else.  I only got the bagel.  Which means there were other things available to get.

The natural progression of a believer is to accept the Word of God (become a Christian) and then be filled with the POWER of God.

It doesn’t mean you aren’t going to heaven.  It just means your life might be hell here on earth because you aren’t accessing the POWER God intended for you to have.

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 1:8

The Holy Spirit IS FOR TODAY

It is clear throughout the scriptures that the Holy Spirit is in operation from Genesis to Revelations and everything in between.

2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

Genesis 1:2-3

When God spoke the POWER of God went to action to make all we see.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Romans 8:11

That POWER that raised Christ from the dead is the same POWER available to you today.

This word is the same yesterday, today and forever.  The power of God is available to anyone who simply asks, but it is up to us to ask.

18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,

Ephesians 5:18

Be filled with the Holy Spirit today and access the POWER that comes from Him.  Which is the same power that raised Christ from the dead.  The same power that allowed Jesus to perform miracles.

This same power will do miracles through you if you’ll allow Him.
