Today I want to talk about how you hear … spiritually.  How is your hearing spiritually?

So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.  

Romans 10:17 KJV

This is how faith comes.

It is not enough to just hear the Word of God with our natural ear and expect faith to be there.  Faith comes by hearing (hearing in your spirit).  

God’s Word must be revealed to us by His Spirit and then faith comes.  Without the Revelation of God’s Word by His Spirit, they are just words on a page that will not do you any good.  

Faith is of the spirit.  It is not of the head (or “soul”).  God is a Spirit so to please God you must walk by your Spirit and walk after the Holy Spirit. 

Faith begins where the will of God is known

Let me put it to you this way.   Because I know what God has said, then I know that what God has said He will do.  In other words, Faith begins where the will of God is known.

The Word of God must become a word to you.  

This is the secret to many unanswered prayers.  When the Word becomes personal, then it is A Word, making known God’s power, making known God’s wisdom, making known God’s Holiness, making known God’s Grace, and unveiling the heart of God. 

Story Time

When I was a young man and going to school, I needed more money than what I was making.   I had been meditating on Proverbs 4:20-23.   The twenty third verse specifically says to keep thy heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.   

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.

For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Proverbs 4:20-23 KJV

As I was meditating on that scripture, after a few days the Holy Spirit quickened this verse to me.   

I mean I can tell you exactly, to this day, the very spot that I was when that verse became alive in my spirit.   Immediately, I knew that out of my heart was the answer for the lack of money in my life.   I mean I got it then.   Faith became the substance of the confident expectation that I had concerning my finances.   Within two weeks, my pay doubled.

So now maybe you can get a glimpse of what I mean when I ask the question How is your hearing?  Do you have an ear to hear what God is saying to you through His Word?

Action Item

The first step in walking by faith is to make sure you know the will of God (aka the WORD of God).  You have to hear the Word of God with your physical ear enough times until you hear it with your spiritual ear and revelation comes.
