Today we are going to take a look at our sin nature because of Adam’s fall.  The world didn’t used to be like it is today.  In fact, maybe you’ve asked yourself why bad things happen to good people.  Well you aren’t alone!

If you missed our last post, you can check out our discussion on The Fall into Egypt where we discuss why bad things happen to good people.

Just to recap…

  1. Pharaoh is a type of the devil.
  2. Joseph’s death is a type of Adam’s Fall

A new ruler took over the earth after Adam committed high treason and gave his God given authority to Satan. And thus, bad things can now happen to good people.

Today we look at the effects of the Fall and our bondage to sin and the world’s system.

Disclaimer

I will preface everything I say here today by saying with Jesus there is now no condemnation for sin.  When we accept Jesus, we gain His freedom.  As a Christian we aren’t bound to the sin nature anymore! (Romans 8:1)

Post Highlights

If you want to preach this post for yourself, you can check out all the study notes used to preach this sermon.  My prayer is that you will study and digest the truth of God’s Word for yourself.

8 Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

9 And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

10 Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

Exodus 1:8-11 KJV
  1. Satan/Pharaoh changed the rulership style after Adam/Joseph’s spiritual/physical death. (Exodus 1:8 KJV)
  2. Satan/Pharaoh HATES us/them because he is jealous and afraid of our God given authority and power.
    1. He is a counterfeit.  (A fraudulent ruler who knows his time is up.)
    2. Exodus 1:9-10
  3. Pharaoh – like Satan – enforced bondage on God’s People to keep us from multiplying and overpowering him.
    1. Exodus 1:11
    2. Taskmasters
      1. Addictions, sicknesses and pains are demonic. They are part of the curse (that we are free from).
    3. Treasure Cities
      1. This is a type of the world system.  The devil wants us to focus on our work to build “treasures” to idols that aren’t worth anything.
  4. The overthrow of Satan was prophesied thousands of years before Jesus came.
    1. Genesis 3:15
  5. Jesus took the authority Adam gave the devil back.
    1. Satan is concerned if we get ahold of what God gave us we will rule in the earth now
    2. Colossians 2:14-16 KJV

Satan changed the rulership style of the Earth after Adam died spiritually and gained a sin nature

Just as Pharaoh changed the rulership style after Joseph died physically so Satan changed the rulership style of the Earth after Adam died spiritually.

Last week’s post showed us that Adam committed high treason.  He sold out and gave the devil rulership rights over this earth.  You might ask but how?? Well Adam was given the authority to rule this earth by God, but Adam turned around and gave it to Satan.

Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

Exodus 1:8 KJV

Satan hates us because he is jealous and afraid of our God given authority and power in this Earth

9 And he [pharaoh] said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

10 Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land.

Exodus 1:9-10 KJV

Pharaoh was afraid of the children of Israel – why?  Because he knew that they were greater and stronger than the Egyptians – his people.

Pharaoh was afraid of the children of Israel and Satan is afraid of us, the children of God.

Satan is the counterfeit ruler of this earth, but He is so afraid that when we as christians learn to live in all the authority God gave us through Jesus that we will overpower him.

Pharaoh – like Satan – enforced bondage to our sin nature on God’s People to keep us from multiplying and overpowering him

18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Luke 10:18-20 KJV

Jesus took the authority that Adam gave Satan back when He died on the cross and rose again.  Now see he really has no authority on this earth anymore to those who are in Christ, but he isn’t going to tell you that.

Instead, he will try every way to break us down just as Pharaoh did when he placed taskmasters over the children of Israel.

11 Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

Exodus 1:11 KJV

These taskmasters – addiction to sin – keep us afflicted and chasing things that don’t matter.  We end up building treasure cities – the world’s system – and don’t end up seeing our lives for what they really are.

A life that isn’t lived for Jesus is a meaningless void of existence.  Nothing will satisfy you if you don’t give your entire life to doing the will of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 11:29

There is hope for the hopeless

So is it all hopeless?! Will we always be in bondage to sin and our sin nature? Not at all!

Yes, Satan thought he had us, but he couldn’t keep us down because Adam was just the first Adam. Thank God there is a SECOND Adam and His name is Jesus!

Jesus was prophesied all the way back in the garden of Eden as Adam sinned.

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 3:15 KJV

Jesus came to take the authority that Adam lost.  Our salvation from slavery to sin is found in Him. Satan is concerned if we get ahold of what God gave us we will rule in the earth now.

As we continue in this series we will get into how to do just that!

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

Colossians 2:14-16 KJV

Jesus took away all condemnation to those who have believed in their heart and confessed with their mouths that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9-10).
