True prosperity comes only when our soul is prospering. It takes getting our mind thinking for the benefit of others before we ourselves can be prosperous and live in health. Our soul is our affections and will and must be surrendered completely to the Lord Jesus.
Our Text
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 John 2 KJV
- “Wish” = Pray
- We must pray continuously for others that they may prosper in their souls.
- “Even as thy soul prospereth”
- It’s our responsibility as ministers of this Gospel to use this tool to show people how to prosper mentally and therefore physically.
- “Soul”
- Gr. 5590. Psuché – the soul as the seat of affections and will
Main Takeaways
- Your soul must be prospering for the rest of your situations and physical self to prosper.
- Your soul is your affections and will.
- We as ministers must pray that the people we minister to will see the light of God’s Word. That they will change their affections and will to align with God’s will. This will cause their soul to prosper and then their situations to change.
Your soul must be prospering for the rest of your situations and physical self to prosper.
Our text for today in 3 John makes it very clear that without our soul first prospering the rest of us will not prosper. It’s good that your spirit prospers. We talked about all the things that our human spirit is and does for us, but just your spirit alone will not cause you to prosper in life.
Paul said in Romans that both your body and your soul need to be dealt with.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Romans 12:1-2 KJV
Your soul is your affections and will.
When we get our affections and our will in line with God’s affections and God’s will, then we will see our life become prosperous and live in divine, supernatural health in our physical bodies.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:2-3 KJV
This verse tells us what to do with our affections and our will.
Our affections are to be set. That’s an action that we have to perform. The reason our will no longer gets to have a say in the matter is because we are dead and our life is hid with Christ.
It’s our responsibility to remind ourselves that because we are Christians we no longer get to do what we want to do and only what He tells us to do.
We as ministers must pray that the people we minister to will see the light of God’s Word and will change their affections and will to align with God’s will
When we step over into seeking not our own will and betterment but the betterment of others, then we will be truly prosperous in everything we set our hand to do.
It is our responsibility to minister life to all those we come in contact with. That means we need to pray for those people just as John prayed for those here in this letter that they would prosper as their soul prospers.
It’s important that we intercede for those in the body of Christ who haven’t yet realized that there’s more to life than getting something.
We don’t do this in a selfish or self-righteous way. Our responsibility is to lay down our lives for others in love by seeking their benefit.
Why do you think I wake up so early in the morning to write these blog posts? I want to see you go to another level with God.
My life isn’t about me anymore. NEITHER IS YOURS.
Wrapping Up
If you want your soul to prosper you have to have a real relationship with Jesus. That’s really all there is to it.
14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
Romans 10:14 KJV
I am that preacher today. I want you to know that there is more to life than simply getting more money. Life can be happy, but I know the only way to get there isn’t seeking after things, but the creator of the things – Jesus.
If you want to turn your life around and begin to prosper, the first step is to get rich on the inside – in your heart.
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Romans 8:32 KJV
God gave the best thing He ever had for you – Jesus. Now will you give your life to Him?
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9-10 KJV
If you want to begin to prosper in life, take the first step and accept the greatest treasure you’ll ever find – a relationship with Jesus. All it takes is confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
Jesus, I want to prosper in this life. I know that true prosperity is to have a relationship with YOU first. I confess you as my Lord, provider and king right now. Come into my life and use me. I want to walk with you today. In Jesus name, Amen
